OPS Road Sweepings Treatment & Recycling

OPS Road Sweepings Treatment & Recycling

OPS have 10 years of experience in road sweepings recycling, culminating in the supply of a complete turnkey facility for 2ZLF Ltd in Derby – from bare earth to a fully functioning recycling site in 12 months.

The Derby plant is a complete wash plant, with advanced water treatment – which produces 2 CE marked products (fine aggregate and aggregate to BS-EN 13242 and 2 other products coarse glass for re-smelting and fine glass for filtration media.

OPS can design a bespoke plant to handle: Contaminated Soil, Gully Waste, Road Sweepings, MRF Glass, MBT Fines, AD Grits.

The composition of road sweepings varies significantly from site to site and from season to season. The flow chart below shows the percentage range composition for each component within the material.

Like the Oily Sand treatment plant, the OPS Road Sweepings recycling plant is made up of our own proprietary technology, 3rd party technology when required and off the shelf items. We have the flexibility to meet the customers exact requirements. We can upgrade a plant or to create a plant from bare earth.

Energy Efficiency = Reduced Wear.

Road sweepings is not inherrently a hazardous waste and in some cases, it is barely non-hazardous. Therefore, to deliver an environmental benefit (rather than just ticking a legislative box) a recycling plant has to be energy efficient. OPS design our plants with the following features:

  • Zero ’90-degree’ elbows on pipes transporting sand and water.
  • Zero ’90-degree’ elbows at the outlet of pumps.
  • Recirculation pump controlled by flowmeters and a pressure sensor to reduce energy consumption.
  • Accurate control of sludge flowrate to ensure smooth and efficient centrifuge operation.
  • To strive to be water neutral by capturing, treating and reusing all the water which comes into a site.

Whilst the above items don’t save much cost individually together they save many hours downtime, energy and raw material costs – on a 30k tonne per year plant a company can expect to save £2-£3 per tonne.

As engineering systems integrators, we combine cost efficient 'off the shelf' products with our high throughput proprietary processes. Integrated by best in class process control into a single solution individually engineered to site conditions, OPS deliver consistent performance, reliability and optimised life cycle costs.
