AEV: High Pressure Mechanical Scrubber

The OPS adiabatic expansion valve (AEV) sand scrubber is a high performance, low maintenance mechanical attrition scrubber that uses high pressure water jets to treat fines and solids of up to 35mm including: sand, soil, chippings, road sweepings, gulley waste, steel mill-scale and glass.

Given their heavy workload mechanical scrubber’s are typically maintenance intensive. OPS designed the adiabatic expansion valve to reduce maintenance costs and extend lifespan.  The AEV works by imparting high pressure water jets into a slurry with a high density of solid particles. However, the OPS proprietary design ensures the energy hits the particles rather than the pipe wall. As a result, although there is a wear pipe included in the design, we have never had to change one.

The OPS attrition scrubber’s  adiabatic expansion valve is designed to the required pressure directives and has operated in the EU, Canada, Africa and the Middle East providing  a high efficiency method for treating Oily Sand, Oily Sludge, Oily Millscale and Contaminated Soils.

Combined with OPS’s proprietary Electrocoagulation and DAF, AEV can process sludge lagoons, slops water, produced water, car wash and interceptor waste. In addition to the efficient removal of oil from sand and sludge, an AEV unit can also be configured to remove a range of other contaminants such as heavy metals.
